Superior Ratings at SEMPA!
On Saturday, Band Director LaNette Crowe took 8th graders Melody Crowe and Abby Sampson to perform for the North Carolina Music Educators Association Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Music Performance Adjudication. This event was held at Lincolnton Middle School in Lincolnton, NC. The girls attended rehearsals both before and after school as well as practiced independently to prepare for this event. We are very pleased that they both earned SUPERIOR ratings for their performances, which is the highest rating that can be achieved.

HG’s Got Talent!
Talent Competition and Arts Fundraiser
Presented by the AAA Booster Club and Fine Arts Department
Congratulations! Your act is invited to compete in the Spring Talent Competition, HGC’s Got Talent, on Friday, May 17th at 7 pm in the Event Center. See the second page of this letter to see the full list of invited acts.
On behalf of the fine arts department, we want to thank you for being willing to showcase your talents in this fundraising event, which has been organized to promote the arts at our school.
This Invitation Letter is full of information that you need. Please read over this important information with your family in order to give your best performance in the competition and help make this event a success. Please email Brandy Caton at brandycaton@hgchristian.org with any questions!
Next Steps for Success
- After reading all of this information, both you and a parent need to immediately join the Google Classroom for the HGC’s Got Talent Competition to show your acceptance to our invitation to compete, to provide accurate information for the program, and to receive all future communication by contacting Brandy Caton at brandycaton@hgchristian.org so she can create the program for the show.
- Begin practicing continually between now and the event to ensure confidence on the stage despite nerves. If you have been asked to prepare something new on Wednesday, work to prepare your act.
- Reach out to arts teachers to request help with your act outside of class time. We are happy to work with you when we’re available with notes about how to perform to win; how to impress the judges, help with execution and technique, help developing your outfit/costume, lighting, and music choices, and more. If you want to win, we highly encourage this. Teachers are Brandy Caton, LaNette Crowe, and Rebecca Santrizos.
- Attend the tech and dress rehearsal on Thursday, May 16th in the Event Center. Details and a schedule will be sent out next week. This is a mandatory rehearsal so the organizers are able to see each act exactly as it will be performed at the event and for your own self-confidence when performing.
- On the night of the talent competition, Friday, May 17th, your call time is 6:30 pm. We will have a backstage area and a special seating area in the audience and you must remain in one of those two areas for the entire event.
Tech and Dress Rehearsal, Thursday, May 16th, Event Center
Participation in this very important rehearsal is mandatory. We practice logistics between numbers, we see how costuming/outfits work, we work out the lighting and sound issues, you are able to practice in the actual performance space, etc. Every act must be final as it would be performed in the event the following Friday evening.
- Each act will have 10 - 15 minutes to practice their act in the space and in costume with sound and lighting.
- YOU MUST WEAR WHAT YOU WILL WEAR IN PERFORMANCE for approval at this time.
- Everyone has the option to leave school and return for their tech/dress rehearsal time or you must stay in the Event Center with Mrs. Caton until a parent comes inside to check you out or you are a student driver and can drive yourself home.
- Schedule will be sent out tomorrow so you can make plans accordingly.
Ticket Sales
Ticket sales will be used 100% to support the performing arts at our school. Sales start next week at school and will be sold at the door; $5 for students/teachers, $10 for the public.
Please encourage family and friends to not only buy a ticket in order to support you but to also share the HGCS Facebook posts about the event with the link to ticket sales on social media to help spread the word!
- Advanced tickets for students and teachers only will be on sale at school for $5.
- Tickets for everyone else can be purchased at the door for $10. This includes parents of competitors and AAA Booster Club members.
